The Ottawa Jazz Festival has finished but that does not mean the music stops. The music plays on and musicians work on... We all know the Blues Festival is on right now but there is all some really great jazz happening right now. Mike Tremblay is one of our city's great saxophone players. He also runs a saxophone camp in the summer through which he is able to bring in some name-saxophonists into Ottawa. Well tonight is no exception. Mike is bringing in the great Pat Labarbera on saxophone for a master class and a concert. Pat Labarbera is one of the great Canadian saxophonists based in Toronto and it will be a thrill to see him live tonight. Pat has played with everyone from Elvin Jones to Buddy Rich to Dave Douglass and today he will be doing a master class at 5pm with a concert to follow at 7pm
The concert will feature
Pat LaBarbera on saxophone
Mark Ferguson - piano
John Geggie - bass
Charles Gay - drums
Mike Tremblay - saxophone
Here are a few great clips of Pat LaBarbera with Elvin Jones and Dave Douglass
Pat Labarbera Masterclass starts at 5pm, show at 7pm at Woodroffe United Church (Woodroffe Ave. between Carlingwood and Byron Ave.) Pay at the door.
The two masterclasses are being held today, but the concert is Friday night at 7 p.m. I'm really looking forward to hearing Mr. LaBarbera, who doesn't make it up to Ottawa very often.
