JUNE 27 - What You Need To Know

DAY 7 - The day of Strings... featuring a great local guitarist, a great international guitarist and a fabulous bassist!

Ed Lister is a local trumpet player that came here from England not too long ago. He has a really powerful sound and a strong lines to. Alex has been a guitar player on the rise over the last few years and J.P. and Jamie really round out this group nicely. These guys are really going for a pocket: groove!

Zak has a beautiful flowing sound with cool jazz-like lines weaving through standards and originals. He gets to shine here as the house band at the Delta City Center.

6:30pm @ Main Stage - Great Canadian Series

Parc X Trio
Gabriel Vinuela-Pelletier – piano
Alex Lefaivre – bass
Mark Nelson – drums
An aspiring young jazz trio from Montreal's most multicultural neighborhood. They are well aware of everything that is going on in the world of modern jazz piano trios, from Brad Mehldau to Bad Plus to Vijay Iyer. They put it all in their mixer and manage to end up with their own sound. These hard working guys are a great opener for the, also-hard-working, Esperanza Spalding.

NATIONAL ARTS CENTER

7pm @ NAC's Fourth Stage

Ellias/Copland/Vedady

Roddy Ellias – guitar
Marc Copland – piano
Adrian Vedady – bass
One of my favorite guitarists in Ottawa, as comfortable in jazz as he is in chamber music, the Canadian Jazz heavyweight Roddy Ellias has put together a really great trio featuring Marc Copeland, the legendary "jazz piano poet". This will be a real treat!

9pm @ NAC's Fourth Stage

Angelika Niescier – saxes
Florian Weber – piano
Sebastian Räther – bass
Christoph Hillmann – drums
Polish-German saxophonist Angelika Niescier is among those exceptional women that have been vitalizing and inspiring the European jazz scene with new outlines. I was pretty amazed the first time I heard her... the aggresive, confident approach Angelika plays with is very cool!
