For those of you familiar with
Roddy Ellias, one of the gems of the Ottawa Valley, you may know that it is quite possible you are only part of one half the audience of his music. Roddy is as accomplished in the classical world as he is in jazz and improvising. As someone rooted in jazz and having been in many musical situations with Roddy, I am blown away by this new CD Roddy released.
Acts of Light explores the sound colors and patient development that I recognize from Roddy's improvising. It is also clear how Roddy's mastery of composition in the classical realm broadens and strengthens his jazz output. It is nothing but inspiring for all of us to open our minds and ears.
